El trabajo pictórico de Arana es una mezcla de figurativismo y abstracción constante, es en este plano en donde el artista recrea un estudio de lo que muchas veces termina realizando en escultura, tallado u orfebrería. Muchas de sus obras en lienzo representan figuras indigenistas y poseen una presencia fuerte del folclore y la herencia andina.

Arana's paintings are a mixture of figurative and abstract, it is at this level where the artist recreates a study of what often ends up doing sculpture, carved or cutlery. Many of his works on canvas represent indigenous figures and have a strong presence in the Andean folklore and heritage.
